Modern lepers? The taboo of cancer / Visibility HIV positive - Seminar in April

We are glad to invite you to our 16th seminar. In her lecture, Ewelina Szpak, a researcher in the social history of medicine, will discuss the sources of the long-lasting but internally evolving taboo of cancer and how it has influenced the treatment process, the perception of patients and the individual experience of illness by tracing the significant changes in the social perception of cancer and oncology patients in the second half of the 20th century. In this workshop Szymon Adamczak will share about his personal, artistic and relational experience with HIV through the process of making and re-staging iterations of his performance "An Ongoing Song".

Deaf Space in the Museum Experiences - seminar in March

We would like to invite you to our seminar in March (22.03.2024), in which we will focus on the Deaf Space and the museum experiences. The lecture about „Spaces potential of languages and Deaf Space concept in museums” will highlight the problems of constructing narratives and designing inclusive communication spaces, as well as to analyze the social sensorium of the Deaf. Dagmara Stanosz will be talking with Deaf proffesionals: Michal Justycki, Marie van Dressie about museums’ spaces, sign languages communictaion, digital and inclusive narration. The partners museums of Sign Language International Potential, Erasmus + project from Netherlands and Finland will talk about their experiences with sign languages accessibility.

Discussing autoethnographic research and cultural differences in disability studies - seminar in February

We invite you to our upcoming seminar, "Exploring Autoethnographic Research and Cultural Differences in Disability Studies" (23.2.2024, 3PM CET). Monika Dubiel and Gilli Hammer will delve into the question of whether disability studies scholars must be disabled. Additionally, Milena Trojanowska and Izabela Sopalska-Rybak will offer valuable insights into living with multiple sclerosis, exploring how cultural differences influence the perception of disease and disability.
